It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To

This Mother's Day is a 'choose your own adventure.' Joy, reflection, or ignoring the day—all are valid. No judgment here, just a community that understands and embraces the diverse emotions of motherhood.

Mother's Day rolls around every year with the best of intentions, serving up a day dedicated to celebrating motherhood, a tireless and under appreciated role. But, the truth is, Mother's Day can stir up lots of emotions for many of us. After all, motherhood is a complex role. Maybe it's the weight of expectations, the pain of disappointment, the unsettling ambivalence, or the ache of loss that comes into sharper focus on this day. Or, perhaps it's the pressure to feel a certain way, force a smile and post that perfect Instagram photo. Disappointed in what your partner planned? Frustrated by having to share the day with your mother-in-law? Wishing for time on a deserted island alone? We’re here to remind you that all of these feelings and thoughts are valid and okay. This day is yours to shape, ignore, celebrate, or redefine, however suits you best.

For some, Mother’s Day might be a reminder of what we've longed for but hasn't come, or of what we've lost and can't regain. It might bring up feelings about our own mothers—complex, warm, strained. Or, it might be a day where we grapple with our own journey in motherhood—the highs and the lows, the certainty, and the doubts. So, if Mother's Day feels heavy, it's okay to set it down. You have permission to step back, to say, "Not this year.” And if you find joy in the day, embrace it fully—without guilt.

This year, we’re reframing Mother’s Day as a choose your own adventure day, with no judgment for whatever adventure you choose.
