Chloe has a special education background and years of clinical experience in schools. She has Master’s degrees from New York University in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education and is a PhD candidate at GW University.

Kate began her career as a child and adolescent therapist in 2005 and helped launch the first Partial Hospitalization Program for teens at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. She specializes in supporting parents of children with ADHD. She is the mother of three.

She knows the ins and outs of exactly how to use time outs effectively. We'll walk through exactly what to do step by step to make a time out effective (and not harmful!), from the conversation you have in the car on the way to the park, to the moment when your child pushes another kid down the slide, plus the follow-up conversation afterwards.

The way time outs are talked about online and on social media makes it sound like you're abandoning your child.  When done with intention and care, they are NOT linked to any negative impact on your relationship with your child.

Time outs are a tool that research has found to be effective, but they're just one of many tools you can use to address challenging behaviors. Take them or leave them. If you don't want to use them, there are other strategies that you can use.
